Legal Practice Course Revision Notes

I completed my LPC / Legal Practice Course at College of Law in Bloomsbury in 2009. I have a few friends who are doing the course now and the big exams namely Litigation, Business and Property law are now coming up very soon.

Now as my friends before me passed me their LPC notes, I passed the ones I had written/ accumulated to them.

Now I believe you learn better by doing rather then writing notes, So I have compiled all my LPC notes for these topic namely the following:

The Documents Fit into 4 main categories:

The ones in the base folder are my own notes on the whole of a topic.

The ones in the ‘Redundant’ folder, are older version of my notes (may be useful as I cut bits out in the later versions).

The checklists are ofc checklists on the main areas, these include flowcharts stautue breakdowns, key point to look out for etc.

The ‘Other ppl’ folder are notes I got from other people, which may be useful as they have a different style to me in writing and explaining.

I hope these notes help your efforts, please note though that due to the way law works there are bound to be changes in it since I wrote these, key one to note the companies act.

So I suggest you go through the notes and amend them so they become your own, this will help you learn and update the bits that are required.

  1. I don’t know much about legal stuff, but I’m going to facebook my cousin and show her this website. She is in the process of applying to law schools here in the United States and I’m sure this will be a great bookmark for her.

  2. Low and behold I just received word back from my cousin and she was very pleased with the referral I gave her to the site. She told me she has already given her fellow law students a heads up as well ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. hi!! these notes are a Godsend lol!! jus wondered what program i need to use to open up some of the files. I tried using word to open the civ lit file and it came up encoded. again, thankyou for putting these up!!!

  4. Wow, thats an extensive amount of notes. Did you read through all of it during your time at Bloomsbury or did most of it get added after you did your analysis? I just have trouble seeing someone comprehend all of those notes and recite them for the test.

  5. Hi I was wondering do you have any checklists for wills and administration of estates. I have my exam in august and I am struggling with the topic. I would be grateful if you can help me out. Thanks

  6. hello thanks for sharing this, but i couldn’t open the compressed file. Is it possible that the file is corrupted? I have the 5mb file but I couldn’t decompress it with any software and the file seems to be corrupted.

  7. Just wanted to say thanks for updating your notes (the zip file).
Would happen to have any notes for the following 2 elective subjects on the LPC ?
    Advanced Criminal Litigation &
    Commercial Law & Practice

  8. You know, I usually refrain from posting things on the internet, but I am compelled to say Thank You for these notes. I have had a quick browse and these seem to be the best comprehensive notes that I can get for free or those that come with a fee.

    Thank You once again

  9. i am having difficulties downloading the file it says “corrupt file” is there anyway you can email me the notes, as i am strugglging soooooo much with the lpc

    thank you

  10. First off you are my hero! It’s so great when i think- “what on earth did that lecturer talk about” then i find your notes read it and i’m totally up to speed.

Please note you would go from hero to god in my eyes if you could put up the Wills and Admin section- even just the final notes you used would be such a great help.

    Thanks

  11. hi,

I think the notes on here are fantastic however would like to know if you still have your ADVOCACY lecture and revision notes as i am in desperate neeed for them!!!

I have done the LPC myself however for some reason can not find my advocacy notes!!!

Please let me know as soon as possible and i am willing to make a donation toooo..

    thanks

  12. Hi Niela, I cant remember if I typed up my advocacy notes or not, will have a rummage. However I do recall I did write a bit pn procedure and the such in my civ litigation notes. try having a look in them.

  13. Hi, your notes are fab and very helpful!! but I was wondering if you have any notes on Wills and Administration of estates?? as I am really struggling with this topic.

    Thank you.

  14. Hey lubz, Yes I rem how much of a pain that was, but once you crack the formula’s its…easier! unfortunately the notes I have for this are still in ‘pseudo’ format and based around the workshops and textbook. So they wont be of use to you unless you are at College of Law and ofc you will need to update them with changes since when I done it just over a year ago now.

  15. Hey JPH the notes I have are just answers ti the workshop questions, the best way to prep is practice practice practice ! and if you at College of Law Bloomsbury GO TO JO’S REVISION CLASSES!!! (woman teaches this property and prob more topics by now and she was just awesome …got distinction in all her classes!)

  16. hey,
i have tried to download the file but it wont let me, i have also tried in via internet explorer but still no luck, could you please email them to me?

  17. I CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR YOU NOTES!!!! THANKYOUUUUUUUUU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the work!! you have no idea just how much of a help they are ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. What an unbelievably kind and thoughtful thing to do. I’m on the corporate route but I still think these will be helpful ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

    • Hey from memory its talking about service contract to directors for greater than 2 yrs.

Suggest you whip out the companies act 2006 s188/288 to verify the wordings.

  19. Hi, I was in a right panic about the exams and then came accross you webiste. What a gift!! One question is what notes are best for me to work off for my civ lit assessment in one week.

I used the criminal ones and feel must better.

    thanks Lisa

  20. Your a life saver my luv and a real gift.
One question what are the best notes to use for civ lit? I am in a terrible state with it all at the moment.
Do not understand pt 36 as I have got a mental bloke.

  21. Hey Lisa… I did this about 2 yrs ago (wow I feel old!) so you have to remember that these notes may be (and are) dated in parts.

Civ Lit notes I would say ‘CivLit Revision M1.3.docx’ Those the ones I wrote; though other notes my friends gave to me are written in different styles; tackle topics differently. Just give all the different types a look and see which you prefer.

Good luck with the exams and LOADS of luck with a training contract….trust me it aint easy ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Hi Sandy; Elective notes I got lazy around then and the only ones I have are directly linked to workshop slides are the such. SO not of much use unless you have the same structure. Saying that I know College of Law have changed it so would not be of use unfortunately.

  22. um hi, i feel so weird doing this and i can’t believe how generous you are being, but do you have any wills / solicitors accounts notes by any chance? and yep i’m at college of law. and god i wish i WISH i could donate to you, but ahhaha i had my credit card confiscated due to overdraft fees. cheers 11,000ยฃ education. Thank you you superior being.

  23. Hey Alexander,

for solicitor accounts, I just recommend practice practice, use the examples in the book and if Jo is doing a revision session GO TO IT. I cannot stress that enough… Jo = GOOD, her revisions sessions WILL save you!

Though I have the templates for CGT/IHT and Income tax etc above (update the figures) that will be useful and keep SRA rules in mind to.

For Wills and Probate, I dont know when your exam is though i’m in the process of setting up my legal site which will talk a bit about Wills and Probate. Bookmark this page it will redirect to the new site when it’s up in hopefully a few weeks,

Notes wise I suggest you make a table for Accounts something like:

    Transactions:
    Expenses incurred Income earned
    Asset gained Asset lost
Liability Reduced / Extinguished Liability Incurred / Increased
    Cash Gained Cash Paid

    Capital = asset
loan = DR cash CR loan
Buy on credit = DR purchase CR company not DR goods
Initial capital (cash)+ assets = new capital

Make a list what Needs a CR and DR etc for each type of transaction.

For Wills and probate the table s in the iTutorials …. study them religiously!

  24. Hi I am due to start my LPC full time at CoL – Guildford in Sept so will be taking a look over these notes that everyone on here is raving about. But I would just like to say that I think it is great that you have chosen to share your notes to help others and I think I will do the same when I have finished.

    • Sounds good Sam,

These notes are dated now about 2years or so. While a lot may be still relevant a lot (esp in business) will have changed.

If you feel like sharing the notes around be my guest and if you wish to add your notes to the list after your done i’ll be more than happy to host them here and give credit.

  25. Salaam. Have just come across this thanks to a friend- am starting the LPC in September. Most people on the blog have said this already but this is amazingly generous of you. Hope you succeed in whatever you do inshAllah ๐Ÿ™‚

What tips would you offer to someone just starting in hindsight … any handy methods to stay on top of things, or things to look out for etc? ๐Ÿ™‚

    • w/salaam and inshallah. Tips:

Go to the extra tutorials when you can they help.
Explain scenarios to mates, explaining a point helps you understand I find.
      Start applying for TC’s ASAP.
Work hard though remember to take breaks as well. Also dont forget to network within your classes and out. Contacts help in the future.

      Good luck

  26. Hey Arfan,

Just wanted to say thank you for these notes.
Very helpful. The donation link is not working so let me know when it is.

    Thanks

  27. Hi Afran

Just want to say thank you for helping so many students!

I am not able to download the notes

Please pleasse could you email it to me.

    Thanks

    Thanks!

    • Hey Amber,

Docx is the new word format, there is also a plugin for open office / the old word version for free.

If you still cant manage it feel free to give me a shout.

  28. Hey Arfan,
I Cannot download the notes, I am looking for Blp Basically and Litigation
Can u Tell me how to Get these notes ,
    Look farward to Your Reply

  29. Hi Arfan! You are amazing, thank you for your generousity! May be a silly question but the law wud be the same for corporate and commercial route, so wud it only be the scenarios that ares diff? Ie case studies? Cuz I’m doing corporate…
Thanks so much again. Eid Mubarak!

  30. Thanks so much for this, it’s so helpful and nice of you. do you have any tips for the solictors account exam? i.e. the comprehension part with the sra account rules? thanks!

      • thanks arfan. just one more question! i’m really nervous about the PLR assessment (i’m at COL bloomsbury). I know it’s judged competent/not competent but how easy would say it is to get a pass after having done it yourself? my questions are awful for it so i’m worried

        • They do tend to be ๐Ÿ˜› but dont worry to much about PLR, the answer is always out there and “easy” to find once you know how to use the tools.

Go to one of the library brush up sessions, and make notes of how to use all the items to find and research etc.

I barely rem my PLR assessment (So I must have passed it!) think logically of the problem and hit the books and lexnexis you should be golden. Key to all the exams is to relax, you being stressed wont help you!

    • Hi M, donate button has been broken for years (dont think it ever worked!) so just donate to a charity in my name ๐Ÿ˜‰

In regards to downloading just click the link and the zip file should download.

  31. Thank you sooo much! these notes are amazing, i only wish i had found the BLP ones in my first year. I will definitely be donating ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

  32. Salaam Br,
This is a fantastic website, thanks for the notes its very generous of you, Please pray that Inshallah I pass my LPC and your notes will definitely help. Just wanted to ask about you Civ Lit notes, I’ve just fin Lit and looking through your notes did you only use these notes in the exam or did you add anything??
    Thank Jazakallah

    • w/salaam.

Inshallah you’ll be fine. Just a heads up my notes are getting old now so remember to update them if you do use them.

Notes wise I used just the ones there + had my textbook.

      Glad I could help.

  33. Heyyy,

I can’t download any of the notes…Ive tried everything. Please will you be able to email the notes to me, id really appreciate it.

    Thak youuu x

  34. Hey these look amazing thanks so much for creating this. However none of the links are active so I can’t access anything. Any chance you could email me them instead please?
    Thanks very much xx

  35. I haven’t downloaded these yet but.. Omg I think I just died with happiness! Once I’ve explored these notes Imma spam your blog to all my friends!

  36. Oh also re-commenting. These notes are mashallah amazing. Inshallah I’ll donate money to charity in your name because I think what you’ve done is a selfless act and you’re helping so many people. I’ve realised that people don’t want to help others because they see it as competition, but you’ve reminded me that not everybody is like that, so thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ jzk.

  37. Hi again, I know this is a strange question, but I need help on writing revision notes like yours for myself, how did you manage to write your notes? 48. Hi, firstly thank you so much for these notes! They’re extremely helpful. I wanted to ask whether any recent versions happen to exist, I’m not familiar with this site so I might just be looking in the wrong place if they do. Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚
